Week 10: Highlights
1. ES Assembly - So Much Joy!
Last week's Spirit Day Assembly brought so much joy to our school community, we had to share it with you. We were delighted to hear the performance of our G3-5 ECA Strings band, meet Kelso and his dancing friends, and celebrate with so many of our students who are displaying Grit, Integrity, Unity, and Respect on our campus and the community. Here are some pictures to fill your hearts with joy!

2. Learning in our ES Classrooms
It's amazing what conversations you hear, what new perspectives emerge, what new ideas evolve, and what new creations come from our students when they are engaged with good learning. They don't see learning as work, but a natural part of being in a nurturing environment where all learners are valued. Take a look at some of the learning happening around our campus this week.

3. Health Tips For Our ES Families With Nurse Emily - Part 1

- Eat a Healthy Diet - Seasonal veggies like broccoli, cabbage, squash, spinach, and of course, pumpkin are full of vitamins and offer a number of health benefits. Incorporate these whole foods into soups, stews, and other warm dishes to stay cozy and warm this season.

- Take a Vitamin D Supplement - Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium, controls your blood sugar, and even boosts immunity. Your body may have a healthier supply of this nutrient in the summer, since the sun is a key source of vitamin D. However, short and cloudy days can diminish these levels, so loading up on vitamin D-rich foods like fish can help. Also adding a daily supplement can give you the boost you need and may prevent a deficiency.

- Get a Flu Shot - Flu season tends to ramp up in fall, so now is the time to get your flu shot. This vaccination can protect you from certain strains of influenza, while also protecting vulnerable individuals around you.

- Wash Your Hands - While a flu shot is one key step toward protecting yourself, washing your hands is another way of practicing good hygiene. Keeping your hands clean throughout the day can keep cold and flu viruses away. If you have children, be sure to help them incorporate hand washing in their daily life.

- Drink Plenty of Water - As the temperature drops, it can be easy to forget to hydrate. However, this healthy habit is just as important in the fall as it is in summer. The Institute of Medicine recommends 12 cups of water for men and nine for women. You’ll want to increase your intake when exercising, as your body loses hydration when you sweat. Keeping a water bottle on hand throughout the day can help you remember to take sips. Warm beverages like green tea are a comforting way to add extra hydration as well.
