VEX V5 Teams in Nanjing Scrimmage
Concordia's robotics teams traveled to Nanjing on Nov. 7 for the season's opening scrimmage at Nanjing International School. With limited official competitions this year, scrimmages are vital for testing designs, autonomous programming, and driver skills under real match conditions.
Four Concordia VEX V5 teams competed: two with freshmen and two with more experienced students. Team A (Andre, Ethan W, Austin) finished first in qualifications and ultimately won the championship, defeating Team D (Ethan H, Yolanda, Mak) in the semifinals. Coaches and competitors praised Concordia’s build quality and control.
Back at school, teams immediately began analyzing performance gaps—recalibrating sensors, improving cycle times, adding backup scoring mechanisms, and enhancing engineering notebooks with thorough test data and failure analysis.
Next up: a scrimmage at Dulwich, the Central Regional Qualifier at Wellington, and Nationals at Concordia. Teams A and D will also train intensively over Christmas break to refine autonomous runs, endgame strategies, and driving stamina. Saturday’s scrimmage was just one step in their growth—real progress comes through action and resilience.

Concordia Hosts ACAMIS Fall Quiz Bowl Tournament
On Saturday, November 8th, Concordia International School Shanghai hosted its second annual Fall Quiz Bowl Tournament, welcoming eight teams from five schools, including one visiting from Shenzhen. The event brought together students for a full day of friendly and fast-paced academic competition. All students performed admirable and showed that Quiz Bowl is alive and well in China.
Teams competed in a series of preliminary rounds before advancing to the playoff stages. Concordia's A team was undefeated through the prelims and playoffs, earning a spot in the finals against the Shanghai American School A team. The first half of the finals match was tight, but Concordia ran away with it in the second winning 380 to 200. Concordia's A team was comprised of students Longlong Cheung, Galen Zhang, Alex Xiao, Warren He, and Aiden Xia. They represented Concordia with outstanding teamwork and knowledge across a wide range of subjects. In addition to the team victory, Galen Zhang earned the 1st Place Individual Performance Award, recognizing his central role to the team's success.
This event exemplifies the strength of Concordia's activities offerings and establishes the Fall Quiz Bowl tournament as an annual tradition. We are looking forward to future competitions!
